Skin Rejuvenation Q & A

What is the best path to skin rejuvenation?

Skin rejuvenation includes not only taking good care of your skin but also incorporating some of the most advanced non-surgical treatments. To enhance skin tightness, suppleness, and general appearance, wear sunscreen every day and drink plenty of water.

If you have a vitamin deficiency (find out through a simple salivary test at Aesthetic & Integrative Dentistry), Dr. Callicutt and Dr. Dayries can help you choose the ideal supplements and nutritional changes to restore your overall health while improving your skin.

Of course, lifestyle changes give you gradual results, but you might want a change right away. That’s where Botox® and dermal fillers like Juvéderm® come in. Aesthetic & Integrative Dentistry’s skin rejuvenation options also include collagen renewal.

How does Botox rejuvenate the skin?

Botox is a wrinkle-reducing cosmetic treatment in which Dr. Callicutt or Dr. Dayries injects a substance called a neuromodulator into certain muscles in your face. It works by temporarily decreasing movement in specific muscles.

This reduces the amount of frowning, squinting, and other damaging muscle movements that you make. In turn, that smooths away the lines and wrinkles caused by those muscle contractions. Botox is best for:

  • Crow’s feet bordering eyes
  • Lines in forehead
  • Lines between eyebrows

Botox can work within a day or two, and then smooth out lines and wrinkles for as long as four months. You can extend your results long-term with follow-up treatments about every three months or so.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a different kind of injectable than Botox. Known as dermal fillers, the Juvéderm line of products add volume to your face.

Because you lose collagen – the natural substance that gives your skin volume – over time, you can develop skin folds and sagging that Botox can’t solve. Those types of lines and wrinkles are best suited for Juvéderm.

Dermal filler options at Aesthetic & Integrative Dentistry include:

Juvéderm XC®

Juvéderm XC is ideal for several areas of the face, including your:

  • Lips
  • Nasolabial folds around the nose and lips
  • Marionette lines that cause mouth corners to droop

It restores volume in these areas and can also add extra volume as desired; for example, you can use Juvéderm XC for plump lips.

Juvéderm Voluma®

Juvéderm Voluma is a cheek-area filler. Because collagen loss is often obvious in the mid-face, particularly in the cheeks, Juvéderm Voluma targets that particular area. It gently lifts and fills in a natural-looking way.

Juvéderm XC lasts for up to a year, while Juvéderm Voluma lasts up to 24 months in the cheeks.
